“There is nothing for us to hide or anyone to protect”: President AKD

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the Inspector General of Police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a formal investigation into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. His announcement came during a National People’s Power rally in Katunayake on October 20.

AKD emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, criticizing efforts to suppress inquiry related to two reports produced during Ranil Wickremesinghe’s presidency. “Those who exploited the Easter attacks for political gain have resurfaced, demanding the release of these reports, which were not from investigative committees,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, saying, “We will not be swayed or hindered by attempts to derail this process. There is nothing for us to hide or anyone to protect.”

Meanwhile former MP Udaya Gammanpila said that he would publicly release the two reports on Monday if the President does not do so.
