YouTuber Ashen Senarathna's petition filed at the Supreme Court, challenging the rejection of his nomination for the upcoming general election, was dismissed by the Supreme Court today (23).
The Election Commission rejected the nomination list of YouTuber Ashen Senarathna's independent group from the Colombo District, citing that the papers were submitted by an unauthorized person.
In response Senarathna expressed frustration, explaining that although he was present, he was instructed to wait outside, which resulted in another candidate submitting the nomination papers.
The Election Commission clarified that nominations must be submitted by specific authorized individuals, and failure to comply with this requirement leads to disqualification.
Following the rejection, Senarathna filed a case in the Supreme Court last week, challenging the Commission's decision.
