Public Security Minister Vijitha Herath revealed a short while ago that a total of three individuals have been arrested based on intelligence information regarding a possible attack against Israeli tourists in Arugam Bay. All of those arrested are Sri Lankans.
He made this revelation during a special media briefing at the Public Security Ministry premises.
Herath refuted certain media reports suggesting that the Indian RAW intelligence service provided the intelligence information and that the suspects had been offered Rs 5 million each for carrying out the attacks.
“These are completely false. I request the media not to report these things without verifying. We have sent clarifications to those media houses already,” he said.
In response to a question, the Minister stated that when the suspects were arrested, they had no weapons with them, and there is currently no information indicating that they are affiliated with any organizations.
Herath stated that the suspects are currently being questioned.
“There is no need to reveal more information about them now because they are suspects, not proven guilty. Revealing more information about them will obstruct the ongoing investigation. We don’t want to do that,” he said.
