Sri Lanka's Public Security Minister Vijitha Herath addressed concerns regarding recent security threats at a press conference on Thursday, clarifying that there is no specific intelligence indicating an imminent attack on foreign nationals in the country.
Minister said that local individuals are suspected of attempting to target gatherings of Israeli nationals, but reiterated that no foreign nationals were among those arrested. He dismissed claims circulating in mainstream media about information originating from Indian intelligence, describing them as false.
He emphasized the importance of responsible reporting, warning that misinformation could incite public panic. No explosives or weapons were found during the arrests, which were made on suspicion, and investigations are ongoing to determine the credibility of the threats and he said that there is no evidence linking the arrested individuals to any extremist groups.
