The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has submitted a proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) for a potential 6% tariff increase in December, marking the third quarterly review of the year.
PUCSL Director of Corporate Communications Jayanath Herath confirmed that this modest increase applies to all sectors. Initially, reductions of 4% to 11% were considered, but the current proposal indicates a shift towards a 6% adjustment.
The proposal is now under PUCSL review and will undergo a public consultation phase before any final decisions are made. If the commission requires changes, feedback will be provided to the Electricity Board on Monday for further action.
This follows earlier tariff adjustments this year, including a 21.9% increase in March and a subsequent 22.5% reduction in July.
