The Sri Lanka Station Masters Union (SLSMU) has initiated a strike based on several demands. They have announced that they will cease ticket issuance and parcel receiving activities starting at 4.30 PM today (30).

The strike follows a decision made by the Executive Board of the Railway Station Masters Association, which convened this afternoon to discuss professional action.

Attempts to resolve the issue in discussions with the Private Secretary of the Transport Minister and the Executive Officers of the Department of Railways have failed.

The SLSMU said train operations will not be distrupted due to the strike.
