Tensions Rise as ‘Prophet’ Jerome Fernando Faces Backlash in Nawalapitiya Jerome Fernando/Facebook

Tense situations erupted today (5) as self-proclaimed ‘Prophet’ Jerome Fernando visited Meepitiya village in Nawalapitiya to construct what he called a prayer mountain.

According to video footage, villagers confronted Fernando, alleging that he was trying to destroy the religious harmony in the area by building a religious center. They were heard stating that they would not allow him to proceed with his plans in the village aand demanding Fernando to leave immediately.

Reports indicate that Fernando had to leave the area amidst protests from the villagers.

In a Facebook post following the incident, Fernando claimed, “I traveled 130 km to inaugurate the prayer mountain this morning, only to be threatened by trespassing villagers, disallowed to pray on Church property, commanded to leave the property, had mud thrown at me, and was sarcastically spoken to by a police officer who said if they could throw a president out of the country, then they could do the same to me. This is part and parcel of the calling of a prophet, and this comes as no surprise to me. Sri Lanka needs help!”
