Over 20 Foreign Election Observers to Monitor Sri Lanka's 2024 General Election

The National Election Commission (NEC) of Sri Lanka said that over 20 foreign election observers will be involved in monitoring the upcoming 2024 general election.

According to NEC Chairman RMAL Ratnayake, the group will include election monitors from South Asian countries, as well as observers from Russia and Thailand. Ten of these foreign observers will arrive in Sri Lanka at the invitation of the NEC.

He said that the observers will meet with commission members before beginning their official duties. Additionally, the Chairman confirmed that a team from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) held a meeting with NEC officials yesterday and has already started its monitoring activities.
