A journalist was attacked while covering the elections in Bogawantalawa, Nuwara Eliya.
The victim, S. Sathis, a provincial correspondent for several Tamil electronic and print media outlets, sustained serious head injuries after being struck with a sharp weapon. He was immediately admitted to the Bogawantalawa Hospital for treatment.
Sathis recounted that the attack occurred this afternoon (14) at the Karkaswalle Estate in Bogawantalawa. He said that an individual approached him from behind, emerging from a nearby shop, and assaulted him with a knife.
Sathis alleged that the assailant is a supporter of a candidate contesting in the general election from the Nuwara Eliya District. He has since filed a complaint with the Bogawantalawa Police.
