President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented the government’s policy statement to the newly convened Tenth Parliament of Sri Lanka this morning. The session began at 10:00 AM, with the participation of the newly-elected legislators.
Following the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Parliament was temporarily suspended before reconvening at 11:30 AM for the President’s address. Delivering the statement from the Speaker’s Chair, President Dissanayake outlined the government’s vision and future policy direction, in accordance with Articles 32(4) and 33 of the Constitution.
This ceremonial address, historically known as the "Throne Speech" during the colonial era, is a key moment at the start of a new parliamentary session, setting the legislative and governance agenda for the coming term.
