The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department says that a low pressure area currently existing in the southeastern Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwestward and develop into a depression by November 25. Northern coast of Sri Lanka.
In anticipation of this weather system, the department has predicted heavy overcast skies and intermittent rains in most parts of the island. Occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected in Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and Hambantota district.
Heavy rains are expected as very heavy rains exceeding 150 mm may occur in some areas of Eastern and Uva provinces as well as in Hambantota district. Heavy rains of more than 100 mm may also occur in the North Central Province.
The public is advised to be cautious, particularly in areas experiencing strong winds of 30-40 km/h, which could occur in the Northern, North-central, Eastern provinces, and Hambantota district.
