Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reports that 12 people have died due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions, with eight fatalities in Ampara and one each in Badulla, Puttalam, Trincomalee, and Vavuniya.
Two people are reported missing, while 17 others have sustained injuries. The extreme weather has severely impacted 335,155 people from 99,876 families across 23 districts.
Currently, 27,717 people from 8,678 families are in 279 safety shelters, and 61,290 people from 18,025 families have relocated to relatives' homes. The DMC says that 1,708 houses have been partially damaged, and 95 have been destroyed.
Landslide warnings remain in effect for nine districts, including Kandy, Badulla, and Ratnapura, with evacuation alerts issued for high-risk areas. Additionally, sluice gates of several reservoirs have been opened, causing flood warnings along rivers such as the Mahaweli, Heda Oya, and Deduru Oya.
Roadblocks due to flooding and landslides have been reported in several districts, including Matara, Jaffna, and Anuradhapura. Relief efforts are ongoing, with 2,723 tri-force personnel deployed to assist affected areas.
