Sri lankan spinner Sachithra Senanayake - who was banned from international cricket for his bowling action - said his corrected action was more effective and it gave more bounce and spin to his deliveries.
Senanayake – who is presently playing for mercantile cricket tournament with the permission of local cricket authorities - also expressed confidence that he would be able to play international cricket in the near future. He was able to pick up nine wickets in five matches at the current tournament, clearly showing that unexpected the ICC ban has not affected his rhythm .
The Sri Lankan spinner has to get the green light from the International Cricket Council for his corrected bowling action before representing Sri Lanka at the international level.
“I am confident that my new action is within the legal mandate and within the allowed 15 degree inclination. I have also consulted several international experts with regard to my bowling action,” Senanayake said in a brief interview with BBC Sandeshaya.
Senanayake said he was hopeful that he would be able to represent Sri Lanka during the Sri Lanka – England series in November after undergoing the ICC test. Senanayake was reported for his bowling action during his last cricket tournament in England.
Sri Lankan cricket authorities too have expressed hopes that Senanayake will be able to play for the national team in 2015 World Cup which will take place in Australia and New Zealand early next year.
After being reported in England, Senanayake underwent testing at the Cardiff Metropolitan University on June 29 and was allowed to play until the results were known.
