"Our attempt is to tame the government and point out its mistakes. We are not here to start any fight, " Rathana Thera said clarifying the stance of the JHU.
The JHU earlier said the continuation of its support to the government would depend on the outcome of the meeting today.
"The government," Rathana Thera said, " still has time to implement our proposals. We are constantly monitoring the way the government proceeds on this matter. At the same time, we will hold discussions with other political parties too."
He said If the government did not act in accordance with the JHU proposals, it would with withdraw its support before the next presidential election.
The meeting between the two parties was attended by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premjayantha and SLFP Treasurer Dullas Alahapperuma. At the meeting, the ruling party’s response to the proposals presented by the JHU was conveyed to the JHU delegation.
