Online Group’s Plea To Indian Govt For Release Of Fishermen From SL Death Sentence

The Emerging Coast, an online group has urged the Indian government to take up the issue  where five Indian fishermen have been awarded death penalty in Sri Lanka for alleged drug trafficking. As part of the campaign, one lakh letters will be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Kerala coast, The Emerging Coast said.

Alleging political conspiracy in the arrest of the five fishermen, The Emerging Coast members F M Lazer, Constantine and Binoj Alosius said that the charge-sheet of the case was filed in Colombo whereas they were arrested from Palk Strait and the case was heard in Jaffna. They said that they had met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister the other day and urged him to hold discussions with the Prime Minister.  The five, who have been sentenced, were caught by the Sri Lankan Navy and were charged with drug trafficking.
