Frontline Socialist Party Propaganda Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda has said that the JVP cannot even do mudslinging properly, let alone engage in an ideological debate.
He made this remark on his Facebook page a few days ago as a response to rumors claiming that the FLSP had booked the Nugegoda Outdoor Theatre for the party’s first rally in the presidential election with the government’s help. Titled “change the system, not only the person” this rally is to take place at 3p.m. on December 9.
Jayagoda mentioned that the FLSP booked the venue following the usual procedure through the Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council. They did not need to meet even the Mayor. Reminding that the JVP also held a meeting at the same venue on December 1, Jayagoda asked if the JVP also booked the venue through the help of President Rajapaksa.
Furthermore, Jayagoda has added that the JVP do not believe that there cannot be an alternative force to the main political currents. That is the reason for them to label other contesters in the presidential election as helping Mahinda Rajapaksa directly or indirectly, he stated. Jayagoda argued that it showed the bankruptcy of the JVP.
The FLSP believes that the political left should not support the capitalist camps, whether they are UNP or SLFP, and must strive for an alternative, Jayagoda added.
