Abeywickrema retired from his position as the Air Force Commander last week.

He will be the first retired military officer to assume duties as the chairman of a state back. 

Abeywickrema, a past student of Royal College,  is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies and the Air Command and Staff College, Air University. He has undergone a number of training courses and is a qualified flying instructor.
