United National Party Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake revealed that a request from a government leader in Gampaha District to join the common opposition had been denied.
He made this revelation at a press briefing in Colombo. However, he did not reveal any details on this.
Ramanayake, a strong critique of the government, also described how the secret discussions took place to find a common candidate for the presidential elections. He said that the opposition used age old methods such as letters and meetings rather than the telephone. He added that phone calls were not used as they could be tapped easily.
He added that despite the development of technology, the government did not get any indication of the plans. Ramanayake also said that their attempt was put an end to corruption and political thuggery.
Meanwhile, the ruling party said a front-line UNP Parliamentarian will cross over to the government before the presidential election.
