Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena, addressing Press Conference on the last day of the polls campaigning, urged President Rajapaksa to ensure peaceful elections and accept the verdict of the people
He also said all the candidates contesting the election should adhere to election laws and accept the verdict of the people.
“Plans are afoot,” the Common Candidate said, “to violate election laws and prevent people from casting their votes peacefully. We urge every party to prevent this situation and allow people to make their choice on January 08.”
He assured that rule of law would be restored and justice will be meted out to everyone after his ascension to power following the presidential election which is on January 08.
He convened this special press conference in a context where election violence is on the rise in many parts of the country.
