Police Headquarters reported that 65 000 police officers out of the 74 000 who have been assigned for election duty, will be deployed for election duties across the country from today.
Accordingly, 420 roadblocks will be set up island wide and in addition to mobile surveillance mechanisms.
However, speaking to media earlier, Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said after the mandatory conclusion of election campaigning yesterday (6) night the police would take strict action against parties who engage in election propaganda.
SSP Rohana asserted that action will be taken against parties who violate the election laws, irrespective of their positions.
Meanwhile, Campaign For Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) election monitors have reported 1411 incidents of election law violations since the announcement of presidential election.
Issuing a statement to media earlier, CaFFE elections monitors criticized the attacks carried out targeting the presidential election campaign of the Common Candidate. The election monitors consistently exerted pressure on Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya urging him to take action against the responsible parties.
