Former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga flayed his younger brother SLC General Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga saying politicization of cricket is the main reason behind the present controversy between players and the country's cricket administration.
"Those who politicized cricket should be held responsible for the present situation. When I raised this issue back in 2008, some laughed at me. What I have predicted in the past is coming true now. As a result, players and the SLC are at loggerheads with each other," Ranatunga said.

When asked about his comments on the conduct of his younger brother Nishantha Ranatunga, the former Sri Lankan captain said he was not the one who appointed Nishantha Ranatunga as the General Secretary of the SLC. "That question should be asked from the people who appointed Nishantha Ranatunga as the General Secretary of SLC," Ranatunga said.
However, Ranatunga also stated that senior players of the team should act in a responsible manner when making media statements about retirement.
"First of all, senior players have to discuss with the cricket administration before arriving at decisions about their retirement. At the same time, before making media statements on such matters, the SLC administration should discuss with the players and clear the misunderstandings" Ranatunga added.
