The group of UNP MPs who visited Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport and Hambanthota International Port was booed by UPFA supporters led by local politicians.
The UNP delegation included Parliamentarians such as Ajith P. Perera, Ajith Mannapperuma, Eran Wickremaratne and R. Yogarajan.
When they attempted to enter the Mattala Airport over 200 UPFA supporters led by a PS member of the ruling party booed at the UNP delegation expressing their displeasure over the visit. A similar situation occurred when they entered the Magampura International Port. A large number of UPFA supporters were seen protesting near the entrance of the Hambanthota port this morning.
However, the UNP delegation conducted their inspection visit as planned, a party spokesman told Asian Mirror. He also stated that stones were pelted at the vehicles of UNP MPs in Hambanthota. It was also reported that armed men chased after the vehicle carrying UNP Parliamentarians.
The UNP MPs decided to conduct an inspection visit to Mattala Airport and Hambanthota International Harbour to investigate into the manner in which the public money has been on massive infrastructure development projects.
When contacted by Asian Mirror, Police said no serious incident occurred during the visit conducted by the UNP MPs.
