Former UPFA MP Manusha Nanayakkara said that there are no 'crucial' meetings in the United People's Freedom Alliance at this point.
The UPFA is discussing the candidates that should contest in different districts, Nanayakkara told Asian Mirror. He added that in some districts, there were a large number of potential candidates who have applied to contest the election. Therefore, discussions are ongoing to select candidates, Nanayakkara said.
He also said that Mahinda Rajapaksa will definitely contest from the UPFA since the General Secretary has given a written pledge to that effect.
Meanwhile, Nanayakkara also said that potential candidates cannot be disqualified on the grounds that they have been accused of wrongdoing. The accusations have to be proved, Nanayakkara said.
