Tea factories belonging to 23 companies were closed following a meeting of tea estate owners on Wednesday.

This decision was taken as a response to the 'go slow' campaign started by estate workers demanding a wage increase. The workers are demanding the daily wage to be increased to Rs 1000.

Meanwhile, CWC General Secretary Arumugam Thondaman launched a Satyagraha campaign in Hatton, but ended it in few hours.

A Satyagraha was also held in Thalawakele by the members of the Tamil Progressive Alliance.
