Chilaw Urban Council Chairman Hilary Prasanna Fernando crossed over to the United National Party.

He came first in the last Local Government Election from the UPFA list in Chilaw and was appointed Chairman of the council.

Fernando intends to contest the general election under the UNP ticket from Puttalam.

However, Fernando was accused of financial fraud over the last few years by some members in the Urban Council.
