UNP MP Ajith P Perera who led the UNP delegation to Mattala International Airport and Hambanthota harbour said today that only the "Chinese with tied hair" would accept the explanation given by Hambanthota Mayor Eraj Fernando about the incident. 

The Hambanthota Mayor has reportedly stated that the gun which he was brandishing yesterday was a toy and not a real gun. 

"I don't know about the Chinese workers who constructed the Hambanthota harbour. But the Chinese with tied hair will surely believe what he says," the UNP Parliamentarian said referring to a Sinhala proverb. 

He also said that members of the UNP delegation first saw the Hambanthota mayor only yesterday. "I state with responsibility that no member of the delegation had any connection with the Hambanthota Mayor. I am a lawyer. Ajith Mannapperuma is an Engineer by profession. Eran Wickremaratne was a banker. We don't associate with thugs," he said. 

Eraj Fernando had previously stated that members of the UNP delegation were his friends and he wanted to protect them from unruly crowds.
