Deputy Minister of Defence Retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara says that wanted organised crime figure Kanjipani Imran, who fled Sri Lanka, will be brought back to the country “very soon.”

Speaking at the Hambantota District meeting of the “Adhitana Tri-Forces Collective,” Jayasekara said 58 suspects wanted under Interpol Red Notices had so far been repatriated to Sri Lanka.

He said several major underworld and drug-trafficking suspects were among those brought back, adding that the Government was now focusing on targeting the leadership of major organised criminal networks and dismantling their operations.

Jayasekara said bringing high-profile suspects wanted overseas back to Sri Lanka required significant effort and claimed the Government’s actions had created fear among those involved in organised crime.

He also alleged that political figures linked to the previous administration had maintained connections with dangerous criminals and an LTTE figure, raising questions about the state of the rule of law at the time.

The Deputy Minister said the Government’s ongoing operations against organised crime demonstrated the authority and supremacy of the rule of law.
