The Association of Creators and Publishers of Sri Lanka (ACPOSL) has temporarily suspended all licence issuance following criticism and concerns raised by stakeholders across the entertainment industry.

In a statement issued on October 12, ACPOSL said its governing board had decided to halt the issuance of licences until the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for November 2026. The decision follows feedback and proposals received from various industry stakeholders over the past several weeks.

The association apologised for any inconvenience caused by the process and expressed regret over statements made at recent media briefings that may have offended or upset industry stakeholders.

ACPOSL said it plans to initiate structured discussions with industry representatives to review and revise the proposed licensing framework and its associated fees. The discussions will focus on addressing concerns raised by stakeholders and developing a system that serves the interests of all parties involved.

The revised framework is expected to be presented to members for approval at the November AGM. Following approval, ACPOSL said it would proceed with publishing the amended framework in the Government Gazette, subject to the applicable legal procedures.

However, the association clarified that the temporary suspension would not affect its existing rights, legal remedies or legal standing.

ACPOSL reiterated that its primary objective is to establish a fair, transparent and sustainable system for creators, writers and publishers. It also called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders, including creators, publishers, musicians, event organisers and venue owners, to rebuild confidence in the initiative.
