President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to hold a special discussion with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) tomorrow (12) over the proposed extension of the retirement age of judges.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m.
The BASL recently communicated its position on the proposed extension of judges’ retirement age to the President in writing.
Meanwhile, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill, which contains provisions relating to the proposed extension of the retirement age, has already been gazetted on the instructions of Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara.
A delegation from the BASL, including its President Rajeev Amarasuriya, also recently held discussions with Minister Nanayakkara on the proposed change.
Following the meeting, Amarasuriya said the BASL had requested the Justice Minister to facilitate a discussion with the President regarding the proposed constitutional amendment, including the provisions to extend the retirement age of judges.
