SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna has expressed confidence that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe will support SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa at the next Presidential Election.
Rajakaruna said the main reason for their political camp’s defeat at the previous Presidential Election was the fielding of two candidates from the same political bloc and stressed that the mistake should not be repeated.
“Our camp is clearly this camp. The main reason for our defeat at the last Presidential Election was that two candidates contested from the same camp. We cannot fall into the same pit twice,” he said.
He said there was a unanimous call among supporters for the parties and groups within the camp to unite and contest future elections together.
“The unanimous request from all our supporters is that we should work together and unite when facing future elections. Everyone intends to work towards that,” Rajakaruna said.
He asserted that Premadasa would be the country’s next President and predicted that Wickremesinghe would support his candidacy.
“There is absolutely no debate about who the next President of this country will be. It will be Sajith Premadasa. I believe Ranil Wickremesinghe will give him his blessings and support,” he said.
Referring to SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa, Rajakaruna added: “It would be better for Namal Rajapaksa to work as hard as he can and at least try to secure the post of Opposition Leader.”
