Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs arrived in Parliament dressed in black on Friday (25), the final day of the second reading debate on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution and the Judicial Organisation (Amendment) Bill.
The MPs wore black to protest what they said would be the proposed constitutional amendment’s impact on democracy and the rule of law.
Parliament convened at 9.30 a.m. under Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne. The SJB had also organised a protest against the 22nd Amendment at the Polduwa Junction on Parliament Road on Thursday (24).
Votes on the Bills are expected after Friday’s debate.
