A heartwarming viral video showing a little girl walking through a paddy field with a baby porcupine following closely behind her has been officially confirmed to have been filmed in Sri Lanka, despite being widely misidentified online as footage from Bangladesh.

The video, which has captivated millions of viewers worldwide, circulated extensively on social media with false captions claiming it featured a Bangladeshi child. Several leading international media outlets, including The Telegraph, also reported the inaccurate claim.

However, investigations have now confirmed that the footage was recorded in Sri Lanka.

The video was first uploaded online on June 11 by a Sri Lankan Facebook user, with the original caption written in Sinhala. The account lists its location as Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, and has since shared several additional videos featuring the same girl and the baby porcupine, all accompanied by Sinhala captions.

The claim was also examined by Bangladesh-based fact-checking organisation Stream, which used reverse image search techniques to verify that the footage originated in Sri Lanka.

The video captures a charming scene of a young girl running gently through a paddy field while a baby porcupine follows closely in her footsteps.

The touching clip has attracted millions of views globally, with many viewers describing it as a real-life “Disney moment” because of its enchanting and wholesome nature.
