Thisara Back In Sri Lanka T20 Squad

November 05, 2015

Sri Lanka have recalled allrounder Thisara Perera and handed a maiden T20 call-up to 23-year-old fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera for the home T20 series against West Indies. Dinesh Chandimal, who had missed Sri Lanka's previous T20 assignment, against Pakistan in July-August this year, returns to the squad, as does offspinner Sachithra Senanayake.

The two T20s against West Indies will be only the second series of shortest-format games that Sri Lanka play this year. They had lost the home T20s to Pakistan 2-0. Thisara had last turned out for Sri Lanka in that series, missing out on the ongoing ODIs against West Indies.

Chandimal had also missed that Pakistan series but played in Sri Lanka's previous T20, the one-off game against England at The Oval in 2014. His T20 record does not inspire confidence though: 273 runs from 27 games at 13.00, scored at less than a run a ball.

Chameera, has two Tests and three ODIs to his name, all this year, and has impressed with the speeds he can hit.

Offspinner Sachithra Senanayake, who, like Chandimal, did not play the T20s against Pakistan earlier this year, will play international T20 cricket for the first time since remodelling his action, which had been deemed illegal late last year.

The two West Indies T20s are scheduled to be played in Pallekele and at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on November 9 and 12.
