Pakistan Crash Out Of World T20

All the ifs and buts of Pakistan’s qualification for the semi-finals of the World T20 ended when they were beaten by 21 runs at Mohali by Australia.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the all-important match for both teams and scored 193-4 in their 20 overs.

Unbeaten Steven Smith top-scored for the Kangaroos with 61 off just 43 balls courtesy seven boundaries. Shane Watson’s late 21-ball 44-run innings also helped the Australian’s cause.

Wahab Riaz and Imad Wasim bagged two wicket apiece for Pakistan.

In their chase, Pakistan were always behind the required run-rate as Sharjeel Khan (30) and Khalid Latif (46) tried to guide the team past the finishing line.

Shoaib Malik also made an important contribution of 40 runs off just 20 balls but to no use for Pakistan.

For Australia, James Faulkner bagged a five-for courtesy two braces in the 18th and 20th over.
