Sangakkara Scores Quick-fire 40 In 2nd Innings Against Glamorgan

Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara, playing in his first game for Surrey, scored a quick-fire 40 runs in just 27 deliveries in the second innings against Glamorgan at Sophia Park, Cardiff.

Surrey started their second innings at the start of play on the fourth and last day of the game, with a lead of 145 runs. The intention of the Surrey batsmen was clear. They wanted to pose a large score at a short period of time.

Steven Davies, the double centurion of the first innings opened the batting with Rory Burns in the second innings. Burns departed early, bringing Sangakkara and Davies to the crease. However, they could not replicate their phenomenal first innings performance as speed mattered most. Davies lost his wicket with the total on 41. Sangakkara was the third batsman to depart at 78.

Sangakkara’s 27-ball innings included 6 boundaries and a six.

Surrey were 141/4 in 24 overs a short while ago, with Kevin Pietersen not out on 21 and the Irish cricketer Gary Wilson on 16. The lead was 285 runs.
