Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Harsha de Silva today upbraided officials attached to the Road Development Authority (RDA) for the careless manner in which human remains have been treated.
The RDA is currently constructing a road behind the General Cemetery as a result of which some portion of the massive graveyard – specifically where are unmarked graves are nested – is reportedly being dug up.
Public reported the finding of a skull and femur in a rubbish heap in the vicinity of the construction today. Residents say repeated requests to the Urban Development Authorities (UDA) have not helped.
Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Harsha de Silva who was informed of the issue, arrived at the location a short while ago and upbraided officials present there on the careless manner in which the human remains had been handled.
