Minister Wijeyadasa Rakapaksa came under fire from UNP Working Committee members this morning over his remarks on the Hambanthota port deal.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister Rajapakshe said the government should think twice before entering into this deal with China.
At the Working Committee meeting, the UNP members said the Minister’s statement had breached the “collective responsibility” of the Cabinet.
They also stressed that action should be taken against party members who make controversial remarks on the government’s decisions.
The United National Party (UNP) at a working committee meeting held today decided that while there would be no portfolio changes within the party they would bear down hard on foreign excursions with only two foreign trips allowed a parliamentarian per year.
The working committee meeting was held this morning where many matters relating to the party administration in the national interest were discussed.
There have been rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle but the United National Party has decided there would be no changes within the party.
