Neville Fernando Hospital Will Come Under Health Ministry

The Ministry of Higher Education and Highways today addressed the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) issue offering a solution to those concerned.

In a press statement the ministry said the Health Ministry would take over the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital that comes under SAITM.

It also said that SAITM students who had completed their MBBS degree would have to under further training at the Homagama and Avissawella Hospitals.

Their clinical training would be in the fields of Surgery, Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Psychiatry and Pediatrics.

Furthermore, the candidates will undergo a mandatory examination conducted for granting provisional registration under the joint supervision of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for

The Ministry of Health will also gazette the minimum standards for medical education in Sri Lanka submitted by the SLMC, with the approval of the AG.
