Former Perpetual Treasuries Director Arjun Aloysius informed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) investigating the Treasury bond issue today that he does not wish to give evidence before the Commission.
Yesterday, Gamini Marapana PC appearing for Aloysius raised the point his client should not be compelled to give evidence before the PCoI on the grounds the evidence could be used against him in a Court of Law.
Taking Marapana’s objection into consideration the PCoI informed Aloysius he would not be compelled to give evidence, although evidence from Aloysius was both ‘required and necessary’ to Bond Commission proceedings.
However, Additional Solicitor General Dappula de Livera informed the PCoI he disagreed with the Commission’s verdict on Aloysius and said he would be consulting the Attorney General’s Department on how to proceed.
