Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando said the ban on social media would be likely removed tonight.
The Minister said his ministry and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) were in discussions with Facebook representatives to remove hate speech.
A blanked ban on social media was imposed on Sri Lanka on March 7 in the wake of racial riots unleashed on Kandy after a Sinhalese man was killed by four Muslim men.
Mobs, largely fueled by inflammatory posts on Facebook and other social media sites, descended on Kandy and torched Muslim establishments and homes prompting the Police to impose a curfew on Kandy in a bid to control the situation.
