The Chief Incumbent of the Kataragama Kiriwehera temple, Kobawaka Dhamminda Thera, and another Buddhist monk were hospitalized with gunshot wounds last night. 

Police sources said the shootout occurred inside the premises of Kiriwehera. 

Police were conducting further inquiries. 

They said the reason for the shootout was yet to be established.
