Professor Sarath Wijesuiya, a civil society activist, said President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have turned a blind eye to the path shown by Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Wijesuriya said the Thera, a leading figure in President Sirisena's election campaign in January, 2015, wanted the two leaders to sit together and make decisions.
"We cannot see that happening in the country at the moment," Wijesuriya said.
He also said that the Thera wanted the two leaders to govern the country according to a common agenda.
"There is no common agenda whatsoever and the country is in the doldrums," he added.
The civil society member said the freedom and democracy ensured by the 'January 08 movement' should not be jeopardized at any cost.
