Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe left for Kilinochchi this morning to meet the people affected by floods in the Northern province.
Several Cabinet ministers including Ranjith Maddumabandara, Daya Gamage and Rishard Bathiudeen also accompanied the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister, during his visit, looked into the relief programmes and the progress of paying compensations to the flood victims.
Thousands of people have been affected by floods in the North and East provinces.
According to the Disaster Management Center, 5,775 persons of 1,829 families have been moved to 40 disaster camps in the three districts of the Northern Province while 9,161 people from 2,788 families have been affected by the floods.
President Maithripala Sirisena is currently in Thailand on a personal holiday and is expected to return to the country next week
