The Principal of Janadipathi Balika Vidyalaya against whom a Fundamental Rights petition has been filed, has seemingly sought the help of parents and a group named the “Sihala Rawaya” who staged a protest opposite the school urging the President to intervene and release her from the impending petition.
A protest was held yesterday by around 100 people which reportedly included parents of the school, who shouted slogans and carried placards stating “ President please release the Principal from charges against her in courts”.
The protestors also handed out leaflets that were seemingly a targeted and a well orchestrated attempt to mislead the public.
The leaflet carries out a purpoted list of demands made by the “Muslims”.
“Do you know that the Muslims want a recital of the Holy Quran each morning in the school?”
“Do you known that the Muslims want the teacher and the Principal to greet them with “ Asalamu Aleikum” each morning?”
Do you know that the Muslims want a recitation of the good deeds of the prophet and his companions during assembly” were some of the list of demands that were within the leaflet that was circulated, which also had a report on the court proceedings.
The petition to the contrary specifically urges the Principal to fall in line with the Education Ministry Circular and subsequent orders of the Supreme Court to permit the Children to attend school in a “shawl and trouser”.
The Petition alleged that that the Principal had after reprimanding two 11 year old girls for wearing the shalwar had ordered them to kneel down and worship her in violation of the Fundamental Rights guaranteed in the constitution.
