Sri Lankan Advised Not To Travel To Lumbini

September 11, 2015

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal has requested Sri Lankans planning to visit Lumbini to refrain from doing so until further notice.

The advisory was issued following unrest in the area resulting from a series of protests.

Three hundred Sri Lankan pilgrims who were stranded in Lumbini have managed to leave the area safely and are currently on their way back to Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Sri Lankan Embassy has opened a telephone number to be contacted to obtain information on the travel advisory to Lumbini or for the assistance of Sri Lankans who might be travelling to the area.
