Alan Mathiniyaramaya Not Registered Under Buddhist Temporalities Act, Court Informed

The Buddhist Affairs Commissioner today informed Colombo Magistrate Courts that the Alan Mathiniyaramaya in Polhengoda has not been registered under the Buddhist Temporalities Act.

Therefore, the Buddhist Affairs Department cannot consider the properties in Alan Mathiniyaramaya as Sanghika Property (belonging to the Maha Sangha), the Commissioner informed court through a report.

This was revealed during the Magisterial Inquiry against Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera for allegedly possessing an elephant without a valid license.

Meanwhile Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris asked CID to seek the Attorney General's opinion on whether the case should be continued at the Magistrate's Court or be forwarded to the High Court.

This opinion is to be sought since the value of the property considered in the case. Dhammaloka Thera has been charged under the Public Properties Act.
