The Department of Meteorology said in a statement that disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka is likely to intensify further from today.

The department stated that the disturbance is expected to be intensified gradually into a depression and likely to move closer to the island, and will affect the weather over the country and surrounding sea areas causing strong winds and heavy rainfall during 15th to 18th May.

Heavy rainfall is also expected particularly over Southwest part of the country, the department stated.
