Prasanna Ranatunga, Wife Served Indictment Over Alleged Bribery Case

Colombo High Court served indictment on UPFA MP Prasanna Ranatunga and his wife over the incident where they had allegedly accepted a bribe from a businessman.

The Attorney General filed indictment at Colombo High Court on June 3 over the incident where Ranatunga had allegedly solicited a bribe of Rs 64 million from a businessman in Moratuwa and had accepted Rs 15 million.

It was alleged that Ranatunga accepted the bribe by a cheque written in his wife's name.

They had been summoned to appear in court on June 17. However, they informed through a motion that they were required to be abroad on that particular date and requested the court to consider the case today.

The High Court agreed to their request and took up the case today.

The Ranatungas were released on bail by High Court Judge Manilal Vaidyatilake. They were released on a cash bail of Rs 1 million and two sureties of Rs 2.5 million each.
