Several students were hospitalized following clashes between two student groups in Jaffna University.

The incident took place earlier today during a ceremony organized to welcome new students to the Science Faculty of the University.

One group of students wanted a Kandyan dance event to be presented during the ceremony while another group had opposed.

This had later led to the clash.

A group of Sinhalese students said that the clash took a communal outlook and that the university administration is unable to provide an answer.
