Former Parliamentarian and Rajapaksa ally J. Sri Ranga is facing imminent arrest over an accident happened in March, 2011, top Police sources said.

Ranga is accused of driving an unregistered vehicle that ended up in an accident, killing one Policeman, in Mannar.

The Policeman who died was a bodyguard of the former Parliamentarian.

There were allegations that Police did not conduct a proper investigation into the accident due to political pressure, under the previous administration. The inquiry, however, was revived after the new government came to power. 

The Police sources said the investigation team had requested the Attorney General Department's advice to arrest the former Parliamentarian in connection with the incident. 

Sri Ranga, a journalist by profession, lost his Parliamentary seat after the last Parliamentary election, in August, 2015.
